Our Ministries

Ministry can be demanding on a pastor and a pastor’s family. But it is not a path we are called to walk alone. It is a normative principle of ministry that pastors need to be pastored. With this in mind, the Office of Clergy Care is committed to help you flourish as a pastor in your ministry in this diocese. Our strategy involves responding to clergy in our diocese who are seeking spiritual care on their own initiative and to proactively support the overall wellbeing of our clergy through a variety of initiatives meant to encourage them in their lives and ministry. The scope of the care we offer is described below.

Are you a pastor who needs a pastor? Are you in crisis? Are you concerned about your spiritual health? Do you need someone to talk to and pray with confidentially?

Bishop Thad Barnum, under the oversight of our bishops, is an available resource to you.  Read about his Ministry of Clergy Care here.

Bp. Barnum offers a safe space for confidential care in the following areas:

  • Self-examination and confession of sin

  • Counsel for relational health (marriages and family, congregations and leadership)

  • Caring for and preventing burn out

  • Preventative care

Bp. Barnum offers 10-12 appointments a week -- mostly by video conferencing.  Please take advantage of this opportunity now. Click here to make an appointment.

Each year our bishops will visit your parish for a weekend of worship and fellowship. Prior to his arrival, rectors will be asked to complete Clergy Personal Reflection and Evaluation in advance of the bishop's visit. During the parish visit, the rector and bishop will schedule time together to review the rector’s findings, discuss concerns, and pray together. The purpose of this reflection and evaluation and the meeting with the bishop is honest assessment of how lead clergy are doing for the sake of encouragement, support, and care. Your responses and the content of the meeting with the bishop will be held in the highest confidence.

We will hold annual or twice-annual overnight optional retreats for our churches’ clergy. Clergy are encouraged to come to be renewed, encouraged, cared for, and inspired for the work they have been called to. These retreats will be held in appropriate locations to make them accessible for all clergy throughout our diocese. Retreats will include time for rest, biblical teaching or pertinent ministry related topics, prayer, and time with a bishop.

We will hold two clergy couple retreats annually. The purpose of these retreats is to bolster the spiritual health of our clergy’s marriages. These will be opportunities for 8 – 12 clergy couples to get away for a time of strengthening and refreshment. These will be led by Bishop Steve and Sally Breedlove and other clergy couples.

The Diocese of Christ our Hope’s mission is to plant, equip, and multiply disciple-making Anglican churches, and to support and serve their people and leaders in Christian life and mission.
