Each year, a bishop will visit each local parish for a weekend of encouragement, worship, fellowship, and strengthening mission. The rector of each church and his team will work with the bishop to plan the details of the visit, using the Episcopal Visit Customary. Crucial to the parish visit is time with the rector and his wife, time with other clergy and their spouses, and a mini-retreat with the lay leadership team of the church.
All clergy will also be asked to fill out a Clergy Personal Reflection and Evaluation. During the episcopal visit, the bishop and rector will review it together to evaluate seven areas of the clergy’s health.
Annual episcopal visits are a crucial component of the support and care of the local churches in our Diocese and a joyous time of collaboration and spiritual growth for the leadership, clergy, and entire church.
