SCHOOL BUILT IN MEMORY OF KENDALL BAYNES
CHURCH OF THE HOLY SPIRIT-ROANOKE, RWANDA 2016
Bishop Quigg Lawrence led a trip to Rwanda Feb 21st - March 2nd with a team of six Americans and several Rwandans for the purpose of building two new Anglican schools and painting a third one in honor of Kendall Bayne, a 19 year old girl form Roanoke, Virginia who recently died following a 5 year battle with cancer.
The Rev. Brandon Walsh helped coordinate the elementary school building in rural Rutunga (Diocese of Gasabo), the painting of the elementary school in an urban area of great poverty in Gasabo, and the visitation of the slums where many parishioners of Kibagabaga Church live.
Bishop Nathan Amooti and his diocesen leaders worked with Bishop Quigg's team in the Cyangugu diocese where they have been working collegially for three years, executing Bishop Nathan's plan to eradicate stunning poverty. So far on Nkombo Island, a 17 x 4 mile island on Lake Kivu on the Rwanda / D.R. Congo border, they have built two very large Anglican churches, built a Compassion International headquarters so that three Compassion projects sponsoring 750 kids could be built, have started a 2-3 time per week emergency feeding program for 800 children, have brought basic medical care to the Island, built a large commercial kitchen, and started a savings and loan program with Hope International.
