WHAT I'M READING

BY THE REV'D CANON ART GOING, CANON FOR LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT

NOVEMBER 30TH,2016

In this Advent edition, rather than discussing several books, I’m simply going to list an array of things I’m reading between now and Christmas (and maybe beyond), with just a few notes:

  • Lancelot Andrews, Sermon for Christmas Day 1662 [the sermon that blew T.S. Eliot away]

  • The Martin Luther Christmas Book [amazing sermons!]

  • Thomas Torrance, Incarnation: The Person and Life of Christ [I really like Torrance’s grappling with the tradition]

  • John C. Clark & Marcus Peter Johnson, The Incarnation of God: The Mystery of the Gospel as the Foundation of Evangelical Theology [I’m intrigued by the pastoral applications in this book]

  • Malcolm Guite, Sounding the Seasons [sonnets on the Great O Antiphons and poems for Christmastide] [you might also want to check out his more recent Waiting on the Word—poems for Advent; available each day on his blog: https://malcolmguite.wordpress.com/blog/]

  • Walter Wangerin, Preparing for Jesus [an every-year companion]

  • Tom Wright, Advent for Everyone: A Journey through Matthew [meditations on this year’s lectionary texts for the season]

Let me know what you’re reading this Advent & Christmas. I’d love to hear from you: agoing@adhope.org
